Routes to Reach Spiti Valley

Route 1: Shimla – Kinnaur – Kaza
Via NH-5 through Rampur, Reckong Peo, Nako, and Tabo. Gradual altitude gain makes this the safest and most recommended route for first-time Spiti travelers. Passes through the spectacular Kinnaur valley. The Tabo Monastery is a highlight on this route.
Route 2: Manali – Rohtang – Kunzum – Kaza
The dramatic high-altitude route via Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass. Shorter distance but steeper altitude gain — not recommended for those prone to altitude sickness. Rohtang Pass permit required for all travelers. Passes by Chandratal Lake.
Route 3: Circular Circuit (Both Routes)

June – SeptemberBoth Manali and Shimla routes are open. All destinations are accessible. Best for road trips, bike tours, Chandratal camping, and village exploration. July–August is peak season with best weather.

October – NovemberFewer tourists and golden landscapes. The Manali route closes by mid-October but the Shimla–Kinnaur route stays open longer. Excellent for photography. Nights get very cold (below -10°C in November).
